Every four years, for more than a century, very fortunate young men –and young women, have been gathering for an international event known as the World Scout Jamboree, Scout Mondial. The twenty-fifth such event will be happening this summer in SaeManGeum, Korea.
They arrive as individuals but they are soon transformed, as if by magic, into a single, homogenous body, with like thoughts and goals. “World Scout Jamboree participants are like multi-colored threads that arrive from every corner of the globe and begin to cross with each other as they weave their way through the different activities and encounters at the event, all building unique paths to new friendships but creating together a patterned ‘cloth’ that spreads out in all directions, repeating itself over and over without borders, just like the pattern in a tartan.”
“So the Friendship plaid, or tartan, is a symbolic representation that can be taken home as a souvenir, as a memory of those countless friendships forged in just a few days, but which can go on to last a lifetime.”
This is the second such design. The first was in 2019. was produced for the 24th World Scout Jamboree, and it is hoped that with regular use it will become a symbol for World Jamboree alumni.
This project was inspired by retired WOSM Director of Knowledge Management, Ray Saunders, and is a tribute to his vision and inspiration.
We have four different color neckerchiefs, collect them all or this one in Blue.
